Case 161: Diabetic Foot: Last Leg Saved and Independence Maintained
![]() |
This 78 year old diabetic and former smoker heard about the Circulator Boot after she had a right BK-amputation in 1984. When ischemic lesions of her left leg did not respond to the intravenous antibiotics and whirlpool treatments of her physicians in a nearby hospital in 1990, a left BK amputation was in the offing. She referred herself for boot treatment. Her walking was limited to ten feet and her ABI was 0.45. Note the black eschar on the big toe. |

She was given both Mini- and Long-Boot treatments as an outpatient. Her lesions healed and her walking distance was increased to a "couple of blocks" making her again independent. |
Comments: What to say? No one else had anything to offer.
